Ukraine has already begun using the newly delivered German IRIS-T SLM air defense system, which arrived accompanied by two IRIS-T SLS launchers.

According to the 223rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, the system entered operation immediately after Ukrainian crews completed their training in Germany and has already shown its first positive results on the battlefield.

In its first days of use, the SLM/SLS combination shot down nine Russian targets, including Kh-101 and Iskander-K missiles, as well as Shahed-131/136 drones. The combination of the two types of launchers enables a layered defense: the SLS covers threats up to 12 km, while the SLM operates at ranges of up to 40 km, reinforcing the protection of key facilities in several Ukrainian regions.

This is the third IRIS-T delivery made by Germany this year, totaling nine SLM launchers since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Kyiv expects to receive at least three more units in 2026, while countries such as Denmark are also speeding up orders for the system due to rising demand for modern air defenses.
